• The increasingly severe labour shortage in Japan is prompting many companies to reconsider the workplace. The three most cited reasons for workplace change in CBRE‘s annual “Office Occupier Survey” report were “accommodate varied work styles”, “improve productivity”, and “improve employee satisfaction”. To achieve these objectives, firms are mulling policies that enable a greater variety of work styles, including Activity Based Working (ABW), shared offices, and teleworking.
  • Adopting a flexible workplace in offices is clearly enhancing flexible workstyle.  Many of those tenants who have adopted a flexible workplace, such as ABW or free address working, also expect to see increased use of shared offices in future.
  • There is also growing demand for office amenities, such as cafés and coworking spaces, as a means of enhancing employee satisfaction.Technological evolution means that the areas regarded as attractive sites for offices are becoming more diverse.
